First-Time Visitor Needing Advice: Best Way to Plan a 2-Week Trip to Thailand?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning my first trip to Southeast Asia and Thailand is at the top of my list. I’ll have about two weeks in early next year, and I’m torn between sticking to Bangkok and Chiang Mai or adding some islands like Koh Samui or Krabi.

I’ve been reading every Thailand travel guide I can find, but they all suggest different routes and budgets. How many days should I realistically spend in each place? Are domestic flights worth it, or are trains and buses better? Also, any tips on avoiding tourist traps and staying safe?

Thanks in advance for your help!

For a first trip to Thailand, two weeks is a great amount of time to experience a mix of city life, culture, and beaches. I’d recommend spending 3–4 days in Bangkok, 3 days in Chiang Mai, and using the remaining time for one island destination rather than trying to fit in too many places. A good Thailand travel guide can also help you compare destinations, plan your budget, and discover places worth visiting. Domestic flights are definitely worth considering when time is limited, while trains can be a fun experience for longer journeys. I’d also recommend researching local prices, booking reputable tours, and keeping an eye on your belongings.
