Dealer wants a fortune for the major service, is an independent really that risky on an Audi?

My A3 is due for its major service soon and the dealer quote came back high enough that I actually read it twice to make sure I wasn't misreading a digit. I've always stuck with the dealer out of habit and a bit of fear, but a few people have told me an independent specialist does the same job for way less and often with more care since they're not rushing through cars. Someone at work mentioned Elite Audi Care as an option they've used, and I'm tempted but also slightly worried about resale value if the stamps in the book aren't from the dealer. Has anyone here switched from dealer servicing to a specialist and did it actually affect anything when you sold the car? Also wondering whether they use genuine parts or decent equivalents, because I'd want to know that upfront rather than finding out later. I'm not trying to cheap out, just don't fancy paying dealer prices for what's essentially an oil change and a list of checks.
