We're finally committing to a kitchen and bathroom remodel in our Palo Alto home and I've hit a wall on the lighting decisions. The kitchen is open plan so I want something that looks good from the living room, but I also need to actually see what I'm chopping. The bathroom is small and windowless so it needs to feel bright without being clinical. I keep saving inspiration photos but they all have these elaborate layered setups that seem expensive and complicated. Someone mentioned there's a guide on Best kitchen and bathroom lighting ideas for your remodel that breaks things down simply, but I haven't tracked it down yet. What I'm really unsure about is whether I should prioritize pendant lights over the island or just put in recessed lighting and be done with it. And for the bathroom, is a lighted mirror worth the splurge or is it a gimmick? I'd love to hear what actually worked in your homes rather than what looks good in photos.
