I keep seeing people say the 3.6 is a solid engine and then in the same breath list off a bunch of failures, which is confusing. Mine has been fine so far, but reading all these horror stories makes me want to understand what's actually going on mechanically rather than just collecting symptoms from random posts. I found a Quick look at why the Jeep 3.6L Pentastar engine develops problems while poking around online and it explained a bit about the design side of things, which honestly made more sense than half the forum threads I've read. But I'd like to hear from people who've had work done, do these failures come down to maintenance, heat, or just the way the engine is built? And are the later versions actually improved or is it the same issues carried over? I'm just trying to work out if I should be doing anything different with mine.
